A plea for the "long haul"

Radio Award Ceremony and Summer Party 2026.

On Thursday, 2 July 2026, Media Foundation of Sparkasse Leipzig presented its two Radio Awards. The Günter Eich Prize - endowed with 10,000 euros and recognizing an outstanding body of work in the field of radio drama - was awarded to author Hermann Bohlen. Leipzig born Marie von Kuck was honoured with the Axel Eggebrecht Prize - also endowed with 10,000 euros - for outstanding work in the field of radio features; however, she was unfortunately unable to attend in person due to health reasons.

The award ceremony took place at the start of the Summer Party hosted by the Sparkasse Leipzig Foundations at Media Campus Villa Ida. "We deliberately chose this occasion to provide the widest possible platform for our award winners and their work," explains Stephan Seeger, Managing Director of Media Foundation. Both radio dramas and radio features face stiff competition today. "Yet the 'long-form' format is worth fighting for," Seeger adds.

Speech of thanks of Axel Eggebrecht Prize laureate Marie von Kuck is only available in German.
