With its Prize for the Freedom and Future of the Media, the Media Foundation of Sparkasse Leipzig has been honoring
individuals and institutions that endeavor to promote media freedom and
independent reporting in a particularly outstanding manner and often at
risk for their own well-being. Among the laureates are Anna
Politkovskaya, Seymour Hersh, Jafar Panahi, Kurt Westergaard, Netzwerk
Recherche association and The Guardian.
The nomination period for this year's Prize for the Freedom and Future of the Media ends on February 28, 2018.

On the basis of a scientific report on the nominees, the jury consisting of the Foundation Council and the Foundation Board of Media Foundation will decide on this year’s laureates. The award ceremony of the Prize for the Freedom and Future of the Media will take place on 8 October on the Media Campus Villa Ida in Leipzig.
